about

Yemen

This is an almost 100 percent Islamic nation. The constitution guarantees freedom of religion but it also declares that Islam is the state religion and that Shariah is the source of all legislation. At the time of Mohammed, Yemen was a Christian kingdom, which offered hospitality to Muslims who fled from Mecca. Now the Yemenis are very suspicious of Christians and only foreigners are allowed to confess another faith. Evangelism is absolutely forbidden and Yemeni citizens are not allowed to convert. There are a handful of converts from Islam who face the death penalty if they are discovered. During the past year, several Christian converts were arrested and beaten for their faith. Nearly all those arrested were released after paying a fine.
